Hope When Your Heart Breaks
Doug sat down to talk with me when I was only twenty-six years old and one month out of seminary. He just retired from his job in the school district. That day he was diagnosed with advanced cancer. He and his wife stopped by to talk. What was I supposed to say? What resource could I provide?
We talked, read God’s Word, prayed and resolved to walk this journey together. A month later, he was gone. How I wished I had a resource that he and his wife could access in order to deal with their questions, fears, anger, guilt and sadness.
That’s the purpose of my latest book, “Hope When Your Heart Breaks: Navigating Grief and Loss.” The book addresses the common denominator of life in this world: broken hearts.
I’m excited to offer this resource because people need something when they hit the wall of loss and unwanted change. People need the hope of Jesus when they experience a broken relationship, the loss of a job, a crushing disappointment, a painful illness, the death of a loved one, the loss of a pet or unanswered questions and broken dreams.
The promise of Psalm 34:18 brings Good News: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” “Hope When Your Heart Breaks” helps bring the Lord near and can be a resource of ongoing hope for anyone in need.
